A person impersonates a representative of the university and attempts to sell financial or other products as part of a donation to a donor In order for an official receipt to be issued, the donor or any person designated by the donor cannot enjoy any rights, privileges, material benefits or benefits (CRA Interpretation Bulletin 110R3). For example, a person cannot receive a donation receipt for money donated to the university: If a scholarship gift of $10,000 or more is fully spent within one year of receipt, a gift contract is not required to be executed. However, scholarship criteria must be approved by the Office of Advancement Services. Scholarship gifts under $10,000 will be donated to an existing general scholarship fund (usually departmental general scholarship accounts), as stipulated in agreement with the donor. As a state-funded public university, the university must comply with federal law governing the admissibility of donor restrictions in a donation contract. These laws cover, but are not limited to, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and the equality protection clause of the U.S. Constitution. National law and institutional policy may also limit the university`s ability to accept scholarships limited to certain classes of protected persons. Donors will be thanked for each donation made during the year. University Advancement and Communications coordinates the issuance of letters or thank you cards. The university gratefully accepts community support in the form of charitable donations. The CRA does not allow donation certificates to be issued for services. In cases where donors want a tax receipt, the exchange of cheques should be facilitated.

The university makes available to the person a cheque on the value of the service. This is taxable income and is therefore subject to federal and provincial deductions. If the person then decides to donate the funds to the university, a tax receipt for the donation is issued. Donors who designate a gift for specific purposes should be informed of the university`s right to change in certain circumstances. An amending authorization clause must be included in all donation agreements. Effective May 14, 2019, Utah Code 63G-12-402 states that undocumented students can only receive a privately funded scholarship if they have completed high school in Utah and the scholarship is managed by a university. .
